When they go forward, we go backwards

My cynicism about the wretched politicians in both major American political parties, let me show you it... in the form of Radiohead performing "Electioneering" live in 1996:

I will stop--I will stop at nothing
Say the right things
When electioneering
I trust I can rely on your vote

When I go forward, you go backwards
And somewhere we will meet....

Here's the thing, though: if you're living in the United States, where today is election day, and you have a choice between the screw-ups and the people who are promising to take everything backwards, between the fidgety people who can't quite get it together and the people who are talking about how the problem with the GOP in 1994 was they weren't extreme enough in triggering a government shutdown, hell, even between the conservative Democrats who would make pretty good Republicans and the actual Republicans-by-name who are hitching their wagons to Bircherism and reactionary fear--staying at home isn't an option. The economy is still in the shitter, but it's not going to get fixed by rewarding the party that put it there by trying to pay for two wars by slashing revenues (and how does that work, one wants to ask people who are proud of their alleged business acumen).

I'm not happy with the Democrats. Jeez, I'm not happy with the Democrats. But the Republicans this year, they're bugshit crazy, is what they are. So hold your nose and vote. The Republican party will pick up seats in the House, they might even take it, and they might pick up a majority in the Senate, but if you're one of my liberal, progressive readers and you haven't voted yet, we've got to go down swinging, y'know?

When they go forward, we go backwards, and they're not interested in meeting us anywhere.
